Held in conjunction with a documentary film project by Filmat36, as part of the celebration of Singapore’s bicentennial during the Singapore Art Week, artcommune gallery proudly presents Memories of Singapore River: Paintings by Local Artists. Many second-generation Singapore artists have held a deep affinity for Singapore River, being one of the favourite locations where they often gathered to paint en plein air, especially in the 1970s and 80s. Beyond its economic value as a trading port, the iconic landmark was a significant source of inspiration for many of them.
Featuring more than 15 artworks from the early post-independence years to the recent years, this special showcase provides a recollection of the nostalgic Singapore River rendered in various mediums and artistic expressions. The exhibition is on view at The Fullerton Hotel, East Garden Foyer, from 19 January to 2 February 2019.
